Installing a web application in the Plesk admin panel

In this article, we will present the necessary steps to automatically install a web application using the Applications module within the Plesk panel.

Introduction

  • Applications  is an auto-installer  offered by Plesk that simplifies the installation of web applications. It contains numerous CMSs (Content Management Systems), such as: Wordpress, Joomla, PrestaShop, Magento, WHMCS, etc.

Requirements

  • Access to the Plesk administration panel, username, and password.
  • Database and the associated user, if opting for a custom installation.

Steps

  • First, we will log in to the administration panel
  • For the automatic installation of an application in the Plesk panel, you can access the Applications category in the domain configuration menu.

  • To select the desired application, go to the category All available applications, and in the search bar, enter the name of the desired application, Prestashop, Joomla, Drupal, Magento, etc. For an automatic installation with preset settings (administrative user, passwords, location, database name, database access), click on the Simple Installation button.

  • After completing the installation, you will be able to customize the application and access its control panel:
    Make sure that the settings for https or http are complementary with those in the Plesk panel.

  • If you choose the custom installation, you will need to have the database and its user already created.

  • After accepting the terms of the license agreement, you will be able to configure the installation of the chosen application.
  • Location and HTTPS support:
    HTTPS will be selected, and the root directory for the application.

    The checkbox will be checked if automatic application updates are desired.
    Pay attention to the warning presented.

  • Administrative Access Settings:
    It is decided whether to grant access to the application's administration panel to an already existing user within the Plesk panel, or to choose to use an external account.
    The latter option excludes the presence of shortcuts for administrative access from the Plesk interface.

    Within this category, the application installation can be customized.

  • After filling in all the fields, we will click on the Install button.
